Manuel Ferrer, ED. D. – Chief Academic Officer
Dr. Ferrer founded FELC Tutors and has served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Miami Dade County Public Schools and Miami Dade College for 11 years. Through his involvement he has served over 4,000 students with Supplemental Educational Services. He has planned and designed the curriculum for these programs. Dr. Ferrer has been selected as one of only 10 providers appointed to the Florida SES task force. FELC Tutors is currently the top SES provider in Miami Dade County, Florida (4th largest district in the Country). He serves on the Board of Directors for Friends in Education, a non-profit educational foundation and on the advisory board of Fun4kidz, a non-profit organization that serves the homeless families of South Florida. Dr. Ferrer has been involved in grant writing for local municipalities and foundations. He serves as the Vice President for Curriculum for Endeavor Management Organization, and is a key member of the SES start up team that travels nationwide providing consultation to districts and providers. He has extensive knowledge on SES and NCLB, as recognized by the Florida Department of Education and The U.S. Department of Education.
He is a graduate of the University of Florida and received his Ed.D from Nova Southeastern University. A former two-time teacher of the year, Dr. Ferrer specializes in Curriculum Program Development. He worked for 2 years as a textbook sales representative and consultant in the South Florida Area for the prestigious Holt, Rhinehart and Winston Inc.
Manny Riera - Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Riera has served as a teacher, coach and administrator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 21 years. Mr. Riera has served as a business manager, athletic trainer, and administrative assistant at several South Florida schools. He serves as a founding member of the Dade County Athletic Trainer Association. He completed the Executive Training Program for Principals in Miami Dade in 2005. Mr. Riera was named Miami Dade Administrator of the year in 2005 by the Council for Exceptional Education. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer for FELC Tutors, the largest provider of SES tutoring in Miami Dade County. He has acted as a consultant in Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Illinois. He serves on the Board of Directors for Fun4kidz and Friends in Education, two non profit organizations in South Florida. Mr. Riera is a key component of the SES start up team that travels nationwide provide consultation to school districts and Providers. He Serves as Vice President of Financial affairs for Endeavor Management Organization. Mr. Riera is responsible for assisting start up SES companies with funding solutions.
Mrs. Maria Ferrer – President
Mrs. Ferrer co-founded FELC Tutors with her husband in 2003. She runs the day to day operations of the company. Prior to that, Maria Ferrer worked 10 years for a Labor and Employment Law firm in Downtown Miami.
Lina Sierra, South Florida Field Manager
Lina Sierra has been working in the education field for 14 years. During the 2006-2007 school year, she ran the largest SES program to date at a middle school in Miami-Dade County. She holds a B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of Miami and an M. S. in English Education, is reading endorsed, and a certified CRISS trainer and Tutor trainer. Her experience includes, Language Arts and Reading Department Chairperson, Reading Coach, School Improvement Plan Writing Team Member, Curriculum Mapping Facilitator.
Alex Rizo, Broward County General Manager
Mr. Rizo began his career as an educator while in college teaching science to students in afterschool programs throughout South Florida. Although his ambition was to become a surgeon, he chose to pursue education as his vocation after seeing the impact made on students in his care. He began teaching in Miami-Dade County in 1995. While a teacher, he was also a football coach and was named Beginning Teacher of the Year in 1997. He moved from the classroom and became an administrator in 2000, a position he held at both middle and high schools for seven years before leaving the public school system to embark upon expanding the newly formed FELC Tutors. He is also Vice President of Project Development and Public Relations for Endeavor Management Organization, Inc., an educational management organization. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences and Educational Leadership, respectively.
