Manuel Ferrer, ED. D. – Chief Academic Officer
Dr. Ferrer co-founded FELC Tutors and has served as a teacher, coach, adjunct professor and school administrator in Miami-Dade
County Public Schools and Miami Dade College for 11 years, and now serves as the Chief Academic Officer for FELC Tutors. As a
two-time "Teacher-of-the-Year", Dr. Ferrer has planned and designed curriculum for these programs, and his efforts in the field of SES have garnered him and FELC Tutors an appointment to Florida's SES Advisory Panel.
Dr. Ferrer also serves on the Board of Directors for Friends in Education, a non-profit educational foundation, and on the advisory board of Fun4Kidz, a non-profit organization that serves the homeless families of South Florida. Dr. Ferrer is also the President of the Florida Association of SES Providers and a member of the Education Industry Association, the Latin Builders Association and the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the National Tutoring Association.
Dr. Ferrer has been involved in grant writing for local municipalities and foundations in his capacity as the Vice President for Curriculum Development for Endeavor Management Organization. Dr. Ferrer is a graduate of the University of Florida and received his Ed. D. from Nova Southeastern University.
As the Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ferrer’s responsibilities include managing all curricular matters, state applications, grants and requests for proposals; developing new prospects and interacting with existing stakeholders to increase student enrollment.
Manny Riera - Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Riera is the Chief Operations Officer (COO). Mr. Riera has served as an educator, coach and administrator in Miami-Dade County
Public Schools for 28 years. He has served as a business manager, athletic trainer, and administrative assistant at several South
Florida schools, in addition to teaching and serving as a school administrator. He serves as a founding member of the Dade County
Athletic Trainer Association. He completed the Executive Training Program for Principals in Miami Dade in 2005. Mr. Riera was
named Miami-Dade “Administrator of the Year” in 2005 by the Council for Exceptional Education.
He has served as an educational consultant in Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Illinois. He serves on the Board of Directors for Fun4kidz and Friends in Education, two non-profit organizations in South Florida. Mr. Riera is also a member of the Florida Association of SES Providers, the Education Industry Association, the Latin Builders Association and the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, and the National Tutoring Association. Mr. Riera is responsible for Business Development and managing the day-to-day operations of the company. He serves as Vice President of Financial affairs for Endeavor Management Organization. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
As the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Riera’s responsibilities include all budget and financial manners; short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals; establishing performance goals, allocate resources, and assess policies for senior management; directing and participating in acquisition and growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans; participating in capital market development.
Mrs. Maria Ferrer – President
Mrs. Ferrer co-founded FELC Tutors with her husband in 2003. She runs
the day-to-day operations of the company. Prior to that, Maria Ferrer
worked 10 years for a Labor and Employment Law firm in Downtown Miami.
Lina Sierra, Executive Director
Mrs. Sierra has been working in the education field for 15 years. During
the 2006-2007 school year, she ran the largest FELC Tutors SES program
to date at a middle school in Miami-Dade County, Florida. She holds a
B.S. degree in Psychology and Public Relations from the University of
Miami and an M.S. in English Education from Florida International University.
Mrs. Sierra is reading endorsed and a certified CRISS trainer and tutor
trainer. She was employed with the Miami-Dade County Schools (MDCPS)
for 14 years before her employment with FELC Tutors. During her tenure
with the MDCPS, she was a reading/language arts teacher, reading coach,
curriculum specialist, student council advisor and newspaper advisor.
Her experience includes Language Arts and Reading Department Chairperson,
Reading Coach, School Improvement Plan Writing Team Member and Curriculum
Mapping Facilitator. Mrs. Sierra has also been a member of the Assistant
Principal of the Year Selection Committee as well as a team member of
the Region IV School Support Team. She has provided professional development
to teachers at the school and district level.
Alex Rizo, Executive Vice President
Mr. Rizo began teaching in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in 1995. While a teacher, he was also a football coach, club sponsor and
was named “Beginning Teacher of the Year” in 1997. His dedication and leadership was recognized quickly and he was promoted to
school administrator in 2000, a position he held at both the middle and high school levels for seven years. During his time as an
administrator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools he completed both the Executive Training Program and the Superintendent’s Urban
School Initiative Program (both training programs for school principals) and has completed graduate coursework for principals at
Harvard University. He is also Vice President of Project Development and Public Relations for Endeavor Management Organization,
Inc., an educational management organization. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences and Educational Leadership,
respectively.

Mr. Rizo’s responsibilities include short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals; establishing performance goals; directing and participating in acquisition and growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans.
